Pickleball in Westerville, Ohio
Westerville has a well-developed city pickleball program with outdoor courts, indoor play, beginner instruction, ladder leagues, and skill-based open play. Hoff Woods Park has four dedicated pickleball courts plus additional pickleball overlays on its tennis courts. Paul S. Metzger Park is heavily used for seasonal Parks and Recreation pickleball programs, and organized play moves indoors to the Westerville Community Center for fall and winter sessions. If you are coming alone, a registered city open-play session is the clearest route into games.
Courts and Places to Play
-
Hoff Woods Park
556 McCorkle Boulevard, Westerville, OH 43082
Hoff Woods has four dedicated outdoor pickleball courts. Two lighted tennis courts also have six pickleball overlays, giving the park additional playing capacity when those courts are available. This is one of the simplest city options for players arranging their own outdoor games. See Hoff Woods Park information.
-
Paul S. Metzger Park
137 Granby Place, Westerville, OH 43081
Metzger Park has two tennis courts with six pickleball overlays and is a major site for Westerville Parks and Recreation pickleball. Current seasonal programming includes non-competitive, intermediate, and competitive advanced open play, plus beginner clinics and Play & Learn programs. These organized sessions require registration and should be distinguished from ordinary first-come court use. See current Westerville pickleball programs.
-
Westerville Community Center
350 N. Cleveland Avenue, Westerville, OH 43082
The Community Center gymnasium is used for indoor pickleball and becomes an important organized-play location as city programming moves indoors. Fall offerings include non-competitive, intermediate, and advanced open play along with ladder leagues and beginner clinics. Daily and monthly facility passes are available to residents and nonresidents, though registered pickleball programs have their own enrollment and fees. See Westerville Community Center information.
Starting Pickleball in Westerville
Brand-new players should start with a Westerville Parks and Recreation Beginner Pickleball Clinic. The two-hour clinics teach the basic rules, game knowledge, and techniques needed before joining regular play. Fall clinics are offered at both Metzger Park and the Community Center. See upcoming beginner clinics and registration.
The city also offers Beginner Pickleball Play & Learn for players who recently completed the beginner clinic and have less than two months of playing experience. An instructor stays on site to answer questions and help newer players during games. This gives beginners a direct path from learning the basics into playing with others at the same stage.
Players looking for additional individual instruction can also use the Coaches section.
Open Play, Ladders and Programs
Westerville Parks and Recreation runs substantial recurring organized pickleball. The current outdoor Summer II session at Metzger Park includes non-competitive, intermediate, and competitive advanced groups on weekday mornings. For example, non-competitive play includes Monday and Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Intermediate and advanced groups have additional weekday blocks. The current session continues into early September, with a September 11 makeup date.
Fall pickleball moves to the Westerville Community Center with eight skill-based open-play sections. Published times include non-competitive play Monday and Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, plus several intermediate and advanced blocks. These are registered programs rather than walk-in drop-in sessions. See open play availability and register.
Westerville also runs intermediate, advanced, women's, and men's ladder leagues. Fall registration opens September 11 for residents and September 13 for nonresidents, with Senior Program Pass registration beginning September 10.
A Visitor's Play Plan
If you are traveling alone, use Westerville's online registration system and choose an open-play session that matches your skill level. The city programs deliberately mix partners and opponents, so you do not need to arrive with three other players. Nonresidents can register, making this a practical route for visitors as well as local players.
If you already have partners and want outdoor court time without joining a program, Hoff Woods Park is the straightforward choice. Its four dedicated pickleball courts provide regular public court access, with additional pickleball capacity on the two tennis courts. Metzger Park is also useful outdoors, though its courts frequently support registered city pickleball programs, so the program calendar matters when planning your visit.
